(More customer reviews)I've had a Honeywell electronic air filter for about 10 years now. The metal expanded mesh prefilters are priced like jewelry but so fragile / poorly constructed that I've had to rebuild mine a dozen times. The problem is the corner joints on the frame, particularly the 'open' corner. I recommend that you use a little bit of metallic 'duct' tape (the kind used to join reflective cellular insulation) to strengthen the corner(s) BEFORE you first install the filter. Also, handle them with extreme care: Even strengthened, the corners are somewhat floppy. Also, the mesh is not very firmly grasped by the U-channel frame, and you can easily blow it out of the frame if you spray it too hard.
(They do make a 'commercial grade' prefilter which is more expensive, but may be worth the price.)
